Collect 'em All!
The Pikidex is an ARG scavenger hunt with a digital component where players searched for Pikmin that were hidden around the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. Players were given hints that alluded to the Pikmin locations and used The Pikidex application to log the codes of each Pikmin as they raced to collect them all! Be warned, though... it seems some Pikmin are hiding within the digital game as well.
Bring your friends!
Invited collaboration by creating a discord bot that would alert players when anybody logged a Pikmin.
Developed with the intent of creating a welcoming and open environment that allowed for emergent experiences, such as engagement with people outside of the game.
Secrets!
I also really wanted to explore the design of secrets and how I can use hints and nods to get players interested in finding them.
To that end, in addition to the hidden Pikmin in the real world, I created three digital secret Pikmin that required some in-game puzzle solving to find.

The most successful parts of the game were people sharing their excitement as they solved clues and found Pikmin. Players were able to play and engage as much or as little as they wanted, giving everyone an opportunity to participate in the way they preferred.
Whether that's spending hours uncovering secrets, deducing locations and notifying others, or exploring around with friends, nearly all types of players could join the fun!
People bonding with each other and having permission to just surrender to the magic circle are vital components of my work and I feel this is my best attempt to date.
